Hans Löw, son of Swiss actor Jürg Löw, was born in Bremen in 1976. After growing up in Stuttgart, he enrolled at the Otto Falckenberg acting school in Munich in 1997. During his studies, he already made his first stage and TV appearances. Following his graduation, he joined the ensemble of the Thalia Theater in Hamburg in the 2001/2002 season. There he starred in productions of plays like "zeit zu lieben zeit zu sterben", "Port Authority", Shakespeare's "King Lear" and Goethe's "Urfaust". In 2004, Löw was awarded the renowned Boy-Gobert-Preis for his theatre work in Hamburg.

During his tenure at the Thalia Theater, Löw also began to venture into film and television. Following his screen debut in Lars Kraume's "Viktor Vogel – Commercial Man" (2001), Löw appeared in feature films like "Männer wie wir" ("Balls", 2004) and also guest-starred in several TV productions. After playing a police detective in Detlev Buck's "Knallhart" ("Tough Enough", 2006), he also joined the cast of Buck's next film "Hände weg von Mississippi" ("Hands Off Mississippi", 2007). He next was seen in "Chiko" and "1. Mai" ("Berlin – 1st of Mai"), both of which premiered at the Berlin IFF.

In 2009, Löw took a leave after years performing as part of the Thalia ensemble, yet he continued to guest-star in prolific stage productions, for instance at the Deutsche Theater and the Maxim Gorki Theater. On screen, he appeared in "Einer wie Bruno" ("Someone Like Him", 2011), Buck's "Rubbeldiekatz" ("Woman in Love", 2011) and the comedy "Die Kirche bleibt im Dorf" (2012). Under the direction of Armin Petras, Löw played in a stage production of "Die Marquise von O. / Drachenblut" at the Kammertheater in Stuttgart during the 2013/2014 season. In 2015, he starred opposite Laura Tonke in the acclaimed tragicomedy "Hedi Schneider steckt fest" ("Hedi Schneider Is Stuck") and reprised his role from "Die Kirche bleibt im Dorf" for the sequel "Täterätää - Die Kirche bleibt im Dorf 2".

A year later, Löw appeared in a small supporting role in Maren Ade's international success "Toni Erdmann"; in Wolfgang Murnberger's TV biopic about the author Erich Kästner "Kästner und der kleine Dienstag" (DE/AT) he portrayed the caricaturist Erich Ohser. He also starred in supporting roles in "Axolotl Overkill" (2016) and in "Es war einmal in Deutschland..." ("Bye Bye Germany", DE/BE/LU 2017), playing alongside Moritz Bleibtreu in the latter. In the romantic love drama "Zwei" (2017, TV) and in the societal drama "Hausbau mit Hindernissen" (2017), Löw played lead roles.

In 2018, he gave a memorable performance as a rapist in the award-winning drama "Alles ist gut" ("All Good"), whereas in the much-acclaimed TV film "Alles Isy ("Isy Way Out"), he portrayed a father, who tries to protect his rapist son from criminal prosecution. Also in 2018, Löw appeared in a lead role in Ulrich Köhler's "In My Room", which had premiered in Cannes two years earlier already. In the film, Löw played a man who wakes up one morning to find himself in a world devoid of people.

In the second season of the series "Charité" (2019), he portrayed the doctor Adolphe Jung, in the comedy "Eine Klasse für sich" (2019, TV) he played a teacher, and in the comedy "Der Sommer nach dem Abitur" (2019, TV) he portrayed a slightly criminal free spirit. In addition, Löw took on significant roles in several episodes of "Tatort," such as playing a murderous con man in "Limbus" (2020, TV) alongside the investigative duo Thiel and Boerne. In the Netflix thriller series "Liebes Kind" ("Dear Child", 2023), Löw had a leading role as a police investigator.

On the big screen, Hans Löw was one of the central sibling trio in "All My Loving" (2019); in Maria Schrader's award-winning science fiction film "Ich bin dein Mensch" ("I Am Your Man", 2021), he played the ex-boyfriend of the main character, and in Hans Christian Schmid's highly acclaimed "Wir sind dann wohl die Angehörigen" ("We Are Next of Kin", 2022), based on the 1996 Reemtsma kidnapping, he portrayed a close family friend. He had a leading role in the comedy "Kommt ein Vogel geflogen" (2023) as the Jewish husband of an animal shelter manager whose new parrot causes a stir with Nazi slogans.
