Die Kirche bleibt im Dorf

Deutschland 2011/2012 Spielfilm

Summary

Romeo and Juliet in the Swabian back-country: Klara and Peter are in love with each other but nobody is supposed to know about their relationship. Klara is from Oberrieslingen and Peter is from Unterrieslingen – and the villages have been on hostile terms for centuries because they have to share a church and cemetery. When granny Anni from Oberrieslingen dies in a crash on her moped on the only connecting road, nobody from either Oberrieslingen or Unterrieslingen feels responsible to fix the pothole that caused the accident. Needless to say, her funeral on the shared cemetery ends in a total disaster and the conflict between the villages is sparked anew. Given the situation, Klara und Peter do not see any chance of confronting their parents with the truth about their love. Eventually, the villagers from Oberrieslingen come up with a delicate idea: They want to sell the church to a rich American – without their neighbours' consent.
