This Week at the Movies: Dreaming Dogs

Six years ago, Elsa Kremser and Levin Peter dedicated a film to the street dogs of Moscow: "Space Dogs" impressed with images in which the camera roamed with the dogs through night-time streets and old cellars, across building sites and wasteland. Back then, they juxtaposed these images with the story of Laika, the first dog in space - a story of human abuse of animals. In their new film "Dreaming Dogs", Kremser and Peter return to the dilapidated outskirts of Moscow and the company of stray dogs. But this time, instead of abuse, they tell of friendship, even emotional dependence between the human and dog species: "Dreaming Dogs" accompanies the unusual community of seven dogs and a woman named Nadja in the ruins of Moscow and sheds light on the coexistence of these total outsiders in an authoritarian, thoroughly organised country. In hypnotic sequences that at times shimmer between documentary observation and fictional narrative, the film tells of Nadja's disappointment with other people and her love for her faithful four-legged friends, which grows all the more as a result of the disappointments. A fascinating film that finds universal, all-too-human truths in its unusual setting.

Förderpreise Neues Deutsches Kino 2025 für "Karla" und "Sechswochenamt"

Am Abend des 4. Juli ist der Förderpreis Neues Deutsches Kino 2025 im Rahmen des 42. Filmfest München verliehen worden. Die Jury zeichnete Christina Tournatzés für ihren Film "Karla" als beste Regisseurin aus.

Frankfurter Dreierbund aus DFF, Kulturkita Grüne Soße und Berta-Jourdan-Schule im Finale für den Deutschen Kita-Preis

Das Frankfurter Kulturnetz "Bildung trifft Kultur trifft Bildung", bestehend aus dem DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut und Filmmuseum, der Kita Grüne Soße (Träger: Sozialpädagogischer Verein e.V.) und den Beruflichen Schulen Berta Jourdan, steht im Finale für den Deutschen Kitapreis.

21. Festival des deutschen Films ehrt Edgar Reitz

Mit einem Ehrenpreis würdigt das 21. Festival des deutschen Films Ludwigshafen am Rhein, nach der Berlinale das zweitgrößte deutsche Filmfestival, die herausragende Lebensleistung des Regisseurs und Autors Edgar Reitz. Der Preis wird dem inzwischen 92-jährigen Filmemacher am Samstag, den 23. August 2025, auf der Parkinsel am Rhein im Rahmen einer Galavorführung seines aktuellen Kinofilms "Leibniz – Chronik eines verschollenen Bildes" verliehen. Die Laudatio hält Festivalintendant Dr. Michael Kötz.
