Biography

Elsa Kremser, born 1985 in Wolfsberg, Austria, read film studies in Vienna before she began studying at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg. There she realised numerous, partly award-winning short feature films and documentaries as author and producer. As producer of the short documentary "Sonor" (2010) she worked for the first time with her fellow student Levin Peter - the beginning of a long lasting cooperation and private partnership.

Kremser graduated as co-author, executive producer and sound engineer of the 60-minute documentary "Nebel" ("Fog", 2014, directed by Nicole Vögele), a poetic portrait of a wide variety of people and their longing for closeness. At the Berlinale, the film received a Special Mention from the jury in the Perspektive Deutsches Kino section. At the Sehsuechte festival in Potsdam, "Nebel" won the prizes for Best Cinematography and Best Documentary.

Together with Levin Peter, Kremser founded the production company Raumzeitfilm in Vienna in 2016. For the treatment of their still unrealised feature film "Der grüne Wellensittich" they received the Kompagnon Script Prize at the Berlinale 2017. In the following year, they co-directed the poetic documentary "Space Dogs", about the street dogs of Moscow and the street dog Laika, who was the first mammal sent into space by the Russian space agency in 1957. "Space Dogs" premiered in Switzerland at the Locarno Film Festival in 2019 and was screened at numerous other festivals around the world. At the Viennale 2019, the film received the Vienna Film Prize as Best Austrian Film. At the FIDOCS in Santiago de Chile it won a Special Jury Award. "Space Dogs" was released in German cinemas in autumn 2020.
