Das Adlon. Eine Familiensaga

Deutschland 2012 TV-Spielfilm

Hotel Adlon – A Family Saga

The multi-part series covers the history of the legendary Adlon, one of the most luxurious hotels of its time. Located at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, it has witnessed major historical events through the ages. The three-part narrative about the fictional Schadt family follows the hotel's founding, heyday, destruction and reconstruction, and thus simultaneously paints a picture of Germany's 20th century history.

The year is 1997: At the official reopening of the Adlon-Kempinski, Sonja Schadt, who is now very old, talks about her life and the events surrounding the now world-famous hotel. Her grandfather Gustav was a financier at the side of founder Lorenz Adlon. Sophia, on the other hand, is the secret child of Gustav's daughter Alma and domestic servant Friedrich Löwe. To cover up the scandal, she is therefore passed off as the child of her actual grandparents Ottilie and Gustav Schadt.  Thus, in addition to the devastating consequences of the world wars, it is also the conflicts between the Schadt and Adlon families, which flare up again and again, that shape the history of the hotel.
