Biography

Ezard Haußmann was born on February 10th, 1935 in Potsdam as son of actor Erich Haußmann and singer Claudia Wenger. He attended a college of hotel management and worked as lighting technician, prompter and extra at Landestheater Detmold. In 1958 he finished his diploma at Berlin acting school "Ernst Busch". From 1960 on he played for seven years at Deutsches Theater, then 23 years at Volksbühne.

In the GDR he suffered reprisals and was banned from his profession for ten years. After the end of the GDR he had several engagements at theatres, i.e. at Wiener Burgtheater, Schauspielhaus Bochum and Berliner Ensemble. Numerous roles in movies and TV productions followed. Haußmann played for the TV station SAT.1 and in the crime series "Polizeiruf 110" at ARD and in several theatre productions and feature films directed by his son Leander Haußmann, "Sonnenallee" ("Sun Alley", 1999) and "NVA" (2005).

In 2009, he played another leading role on the movie screen in a film directed by his son in the caustic society comedy "Dinosaurier – Gegen uns seht ihr alt aus!", a tribute to Bernhard Sinkel"s classic film "Lina Braake".It was Ezard Haußmann"s last film: He died in Berlin, november 6, 2010.
