Biography

Julia Koschitz was born in Brussels on December 26, 1974. She grew up there and in Frankfurt am Main and studied acting at the Franz Schubert Konservatorium in Vienna, followed by an engagement at the Coburg state theatre. Between 1998 and 2000, she appeared in stage productions like "Woyzeck", "Viel Lärm um nichts" and Franz Xaver Kroetz' "Oberösterreich". Between 2000 and 2002, she was part of the ensemble of the Regensburg theatre. She delivered memorable performances in Schiller's "Die Jungfrau von Orleans", Shakespeare's "Sommernachtstraum" and Igor Bauersima's "Norway Today". Since 2002 she is living in Munich and appeared there in several productions of Teamtheater Tankstelle. At the Kammerspiele Landshut, she received rave reviews for her performance as "Antigone" and for her portrayal of Henrik Ibsen's "Nora", she was awarded the Actor Award at the 2006 Bayerische Theatertage.

Following roles in the TV series "München 7" (since 2004) and "Allein unter Bauern" (2007), Julia Koschitz made her screen debut in Ralf Westhoff's acclaimed surprise hit "Shoppen" (2006). Along with her stage career, she appeared in TV productions like "Woran Dein Herz hängt" (2009), "Ein Hausboot zum Verlieben" (2009) and the series "Doctor's Diary - Männer sind die beste Medizin" (2008-2011) . Julia Koschitz returned to cinema as the female lead in Nikolaus Leytner's Austrian comedy "Der Fall des Lemming" (2009), followed by a supporting role in "Teufelskicker" (2010). Re-teaming with director Ralf Westhoff, she starred in "Der letzte schöne Herbsttag", which won the Förderpreis Deutscher Film for Best Direction at the 2010 Munich Film Festival.

Despite the accolades and rave reviews, Koschitz primarily focused on her television career in the following years. In 2011, she had leading roles in the made-for-TV comedy "Männer ticken, Frauen anders" and the drama "Das Wunder von Kärnten" (2011). On the big screen, she played the reluctant wife of a writer in the adaptation of the novel "Ruhm" ("Glory: A tale of mistaken identities").

Jula Koschitz received much praise for her portrayal of a depressed mother and physician who eventually commits suicide in the Grimme-Award winning drama "Der letzte schöne Tag" (2012, TV) by Johannes Fabrick. She got a special nomination at the 2014 Grimme Awards for her performances in the TV productions "Tödliche Versuchung" and "Pass gut auf ihn auf", and the latter also won her the Deutsche Schauspielerpreis and the Bavarian Television Award.

Koschitz next played a lawyer attracted to her charming client, an alleged rapist, in the psychological thriller "Am Ende des Tages" (2014, TV), and a troubled choir singer haunted by her past in the mystery drama "Die Toten von Hameln". In late 2014, she starred as the wife of a terminally ill man who goes on one last bicycle trip with his unknowing friends in Christian Zübert's theatrically released tragicomedy "Hin und weg" ("Tour de Force"). The romantic comedy "Bocksprünge" (2014), in which Koschitz was the female lead, opened almost at the same time.

In 2015, she starred in three films directed by Johannes Fabrick: the psychological thriller "Unsichtbare Jahre" (TV), the crime drama "Zweimal lebenslänglich" (TV) and the road movie "Kleine Zeige, sturer Bock" ("Stroppy Cow, Stubborn Ram"). Moreover, she was one of the leads of the children's film "Gespensterjäger" ("Ghosthunters - On Icy Trails", 2015).

Koschitz next starred opposite Jannis Niewöhner and André Hennicke in the coming-of age-drama "Jonathan" (2016), and played a teacher who falls in love with an 18-year-old student in the made-for-TV movie "Schweigeminute" (2016). In Stephan Wagner's "Am Ruder" (2016, TV) she was a bank robber, in André Erkau's big screen comedy "Happy Burnout" (2017) she had a supporting role as an effervescent burnout patient. Among the leading roles Koschitz played was that of an Interpol agent in Daniel Harrich's investigative and highly acclaimed pharmaceutical thriller "Gift" (2017, TV) and that of a scheming wife in Hans Steinbichler's "Gefangen: Der Fall K." (2018, TV), which was based on the true case of Gustl Mollath.

Ralf Westhoff, with whom she had already worked in her debut "Shoppen" (2006) and later in "Der letzte schöne Herbsttag" (2010), cast Koschitz alongside Friedrich Mücke in a leading role in his romantic comedy "Wie gut ist deine Beziehung? (2019), about a couple who want to bring new momentum into their relationship.
