Happy Birthday, Türke!

Deutschland 1991 Spielfilm

Summary

Happy Birthday!

A new woman client goes to see private investigator Kemal Kayankaya, who grew up in Germany and does not master the Turkish language, in his rundown detective agency in Frankfurt. The young Turkish woman Ilter appoints him to find her husband who has disappeared.

This case becomes problematic already by the fact that Germans rank Kayankaya as a foreigner and discriminate him as a Turk, while in Frankfurt’s Turkish milieu, Kayankaya is considered to be a German. Thus, his investigation does not get on well – until his case that seemed to be pretty banal at the beginning leads into an abyss of violence, drug dealing, prostitution, and corruption. But meanwhile, not even a beating can stop Kayankaya from getting to the bottom of things.
