Biography

Andreas Döhler, born in 1974, studied acting at the music and theatre academy "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig from 1999 until 2003. During that time, he already regularly performed at the Nationaltheater in Weimar.

Following his graduation, he joined the ensemble of the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, and from 2003 until 2009, he worked under renowned stage directors like Michael Thalheimer, Dimiter Gotscheff, Armin Petras and Stephan Kimmig and appeared in productions of "Sommergäste", "Leonce und Lena" and "Tartuffe". Since 2009, he is a regular player at the Deutsche Theater in Berlin, where he performed in productions of "Demokratie" and "Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald".

After some early TV roles, Döhler made his feature film debut in Andres Veiels "Wer wenn nicht wir" ("If Not Us, Who", 2011). This was followed by supporting roles in the made-for-TV thriller "Die Stunde des Wolfs" (2011) and in the theatrical release "Schilf - Alles, was denkbar ist, existiert" (2012). He had his first leading role in the tragicomedy "Millionen" ("Millions"), playing a regular family man whose life is turned upside down when a lottery ticket wins him 22 million Euro.

Following a string of TV roles, including a turn as a German physicist in the Norwegian miniseries "Kampen om tungtvannet", Döhler was the male lead in Florian Eichinger's "Die Hände meiner Mutter" ("The Hands of My Mother"), the portrayal of a family man who was molested by his mother as a child. At the Munich Film Festival, Döhler received the Förderpreis Neues Deutsches Kino for this role. In December 2016, "Die Hände meiner Mutter" was released in cinemas.

In 2017, Döhler transferred from the ensemble of the Deutsches Theater Berlin to the Berliner Ensemble. There he appeared on stage as Jean Valjean in "Les Misérables" (2017), as Stanley in "A Streetcar Named Desire" (2018) and as Labude in "Fabian oder der Gang vor die Hunde" (2021), among others.

In addition, he continued to take on numerous television roles and appeared in several feature films, among them the multiple award-winning drama "Alles ist gut" ("All Is Well", 2018), in which he played the unsuspecting partner of a rape victim (Aenne Schwarz). He also appeared in the social drama "Im Niemandsland" ("Love Between the Walls", 2019) as a family father who once fled the GDR and reclaims his parents' property after the fall of communism. The relationship drama "Die Einzelteile der Liebe" ("The Components of Love", 2019) featured him as a new partner of a mother played by Birte Schnöink’s who surprisingly mediates between her and her ex-partner in a custody dispute. Döhler played a mayor in the historical social satire "Blutsauger" ("Bloodsuckers – A Marxist Vampire Comedy", 2021) and a German lieutenant in Edward Berger's highly acclaimed anti-war drama "Im Westen nichts Neues" ("All Quiet on the Western Front", 2022).

At the end of 2022, two films starring Andres Döhler were released in cinemas: In Mareike Wegener's idiosyncratic province and crime study "Echo," he played a village policeman who is as dutiful as he is clumsy, and in Thomas Stuber's episodic film "Die stillen Trabanten" ("Dark Satellites"), he played a man who dreams of opening a takeaway with a friend.
