Biography

Edin Hasanović was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992 but relocated to Germany with his mother as refugees while he was still a baby. He then grew up in Berlin where as an adolescent he made his first acting experiences in a production of the play "Die Schändung" at the Berliner Ensemble (2006). From 2007 on, he had a recurring role as a refugee from Kosovo in the acclaimed TV series "KDD – Kriminaldauerdienst". He also had supporting roles in TV programmes like "Kommissarin Lucas", "Polizeiruf 110" and "Tatort", and appeared in the feature film "Picco" (2010).

He got his first leading role in the youth drama "Schuld sind immer die Anderen" ("Shifting the Blame"), in which he plays a young convict, who arrives at a correctional camp only to realize that one of the counsellors is a former victim of him. The film went on to win several awards, for instance at the 2012 Filmfest Emden-Norderney, and was released in February 2013. Edin Hasanović won several accolades for his performance, including the actor's award of the São Paulo International Film Festival, the Günter-Strack-Fernsehpreis and the Preis der Saarland Film GmbH des Günter Rohrbach Filmpreises. He also received a nomination for Best Actor at the German Film Awards.

After a supporting role in André Erkau's "Das Leben ist nichts für Feiglinge", Hasanović starred alongside Hannes Jaenicke and Anneke Kim Sarnau in the made-for-TV movie "Weit hinter dem Horizont" (2013). He also appeared in the TV productions "Die goldene Gans" (2013) and "Das Attentat – Sarajevo 1914" (2014). His performance as a drug dealer in "Zum Sterben zu früh" (2015, TV) garnered him a nomination for the Deutsche Schauspielpreis.

After playing a boxer in the theatrical release "Herbert" (2015), Hasanović got very positive reviews and another nomination for the Deutsche Schauspielerpreis for his performance in Philipp Kadelbachs "Auf kurze Distanz" (2016). Venturing into TV shows, he had leading roles in both the dramedy "Familie Braun" (2016) and the Amazon show "You Are Wanted" (2017). He then was cast as a German student who gets under the influence of Islamic militants in the two-part TV drama "Brüder" ("Brothers", 2017), before re-teaming with director Lars Becker for the TV thriller "Der gute Bulle" (2017). Hasanović went on to star opposite Moritz Bleibtreu and Kida Khodr Ramadan in Özgür Yildirim's award-winning gangster drama "Nur Gott kann mich richten".

The much-praised TV drama "Vermisst in Berlin" (2018) showed him as a policeman whose ex-colleague becomes aware of a child prostitution ring. Lighter fare was David Dietl's big screen comedy "Rate Your Date" (2019), with Hasanović as a start-up founder, who is developing a new dating app with two friends. Also in 2019 he had a leading role in the love story "Mein Ende. Dein Anfang." ("Relativity"), as the new love of a grieving young woman. He also played a lead role as an aspiring hip-hop producer in the German Netflix series "Skylines" (2019). For this role he received another nomination for the German Actor Award.

He had a leading role in Maggie Peren's time-loop relationship comedy "Hello Again - Ein Tag für immer" ("Hello Again - A Wedding A Day", 2020), followed by a leading role as a neo-fascist in the award-winning right-wing populism drama "Je suis Karl" (DE/CZ 2021).

An outstanding international success was Edward Berger's award-winning anti-war film "Im Westen nichts Neues" ("All Quiet on the Western Front", 2022), in which Hasanović played a young recruit who is sadistically tormented by his instructor. Lighter material was the comedy "Trauzeugen" (2023), about a pair of very different marriage witnesses who, despite all their differences, must come together to save the bride and groom's wedding.
