Märkische Forschungen
Max von Schwedenow, a forgotten poet of bygone times, brings together Menzel, a professor of literature, and Pötsch, a country teacher and hobby researcher. What could become friendship, quickly turns into rivalry, because Pötsch, who discovers in the poet von Schwedenow a vulnerable personality very much like himself, endangers Menzel's harmonious version of the end of this poet's life. Menzel, whose publication is about to be published, does not want to be disturbed by such theories of a little schoolmaster. Pötsch almost perishes from this dissent and gets entangled in chains of evidence whose uselessness he can no longer recognize.
