Summary

Renata in the Quartet

The planned tour of the Börne Quartet is jeopardized when violist Paul Erdmann leaves, and his replacement, Walter Bauer, also drops out. At Walter's suggestion, Renate joins the quartet as the only woman. After their first joint success, Kurt Kielmannsdorf invites the musician friends to his inn "Lärchenhof". But second violinist Peter Vogt and Renate must first go to Berlin on business, where his attempt to seduce Renate is rebuffed. Upon their arrival at the Lärchenhof, the atmosphere there is one of irritation. Now Michael Börne tries to declare his love for Renate, but he is also unsuccessful, and Renate leaves with Kurt. On the evening of the concert in Baden-Baden, she is eagerly awaited by her colleagues, but she does not show up. Instead, her old friend Paul appears, and the quartet is complete again. Renate and Kurt enjoy the concert as silent spectators.
