Biography

Benjamin-Lennie Münchow was born on 20 October 1990 in Dachau, Germany. His parents are the poet and actress Sylvia Krupicka and the actor Torsten Münchow; his younger sister, Antonia Münchow, is also an actress. After his parents' early divorce, Ben Münchow grew up with his mother in Berlin, where he made his stage debut in 2000 with a small guest role in "Der Hauptmann von Köpenick". As a young teenager, Münchow moved with his father to Tittmoning in the Chiemgau, where he describes an idyllic childhood. "Bavaria is my home, Bavaria grounds me," he told Süddeutsche Zeitung in 2016.

He gained further acting experience in school theater, as a voice actor, and at festivals, most notably at the Salzachfestspiele Laufen in 2007 and 2008 under the direction of his father.

Münchow made his film debut in 2009 as a band drummer in the youth film "Rock It!" In real life, he has been part of a band since 2012, as one of three singers in the Hamburg-based band Kollektiv22. Between 2011 and 2013, Münchow appeared on stage in various productions at the Ernst Deutsch Theater in Hamburg, including "Die Physiker," "Die Nashörner" and "Der kleine Vampir".

On television, he took on leading and supporting roles in various series and crime dramas from 2012, appearing in episodes of "Morden im Norden" and "Küstenwache". In particular, he had a significant role as a psychopathic horse killer in the "Tatort" episode "Die Sonne stirbt wie ein Tier" (2014). In the highly acclaimed trilogy "Mitten in Deutschland: NSU" ("NSU German History X," 2016) he portrayed the neo-Nazi and informant Tino Brandt.

On the big screen, Ben Münchow played a leading role in the conspiracy thriller "Boy 7" (2015). He achieved great success as a thwarted rockabilly singer in the youth film "Rockabilly Requiem" (2015), for which he won the Max Ophüls Award for Best Young Actor in early 2016. Also in 2016, he was part of the main ensemble in the coming-of-age film "Nirgendwo" ("Nowhere"), alongside Ludwig Trepte, Saskia Rosendahl and Amelie Kiefer. He also had smaller roles in the crime film "Nur Gott kann mich richten" (2017) and the thriller "Abgeschnitten" ("Cut Off," 2018). In the first season of the series "Das Boot" (2018), he played an important supporting role as a somewhat dim-witted submariner.

Despite his extensive experience, Ben Münchow began studying acting at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin in 2018. At the same time, he appeared in numerous TV productions, some of which were shot before he began his studies, such as in "Tödliches Comeback" (2019) as a police officer and son of a criminal pop singer, in the "Tatort" episode "Tschill Out" (2020) as a vulnerable witness, and in the drama series "Saubere Sache" (2021) as a regular customer in a laundromat. finished his studies in July 2021.

Since then, he has played roles including a suicidal police officer in the science fiction miniseries "Another Monday" (2022), an unemployed 31-year-old who reluctantly moves in with his mother in the series "Like A Loser" (2023), and a member of an involuntary taxi-sharing group in the comedy film "791 km" (2023). In late 2023, he appeared as the son of Hape Kerkeling's eccentric lead character in the miniseries "Club Las Piranjas".
