The Girl With the Golden Hands

A small East German provincial town in 1999, shortly before the turn of the millennium: In an old manor house that served as a children's home in GDR times, Gudrun, who once grew up there herself, is celebrating her 60th birthday. Among the guests is her daughter Lara, who has traveled from Berlin to be with her stepfather. The relationship between mother and daughter is strained, not least because Gudrun never wanted to talk to Lara about her biological father.

During the celebration, Gudrun learns that the tradition-steeped estate is to be converted into a luxurious hotel by out-of-town investors. In the village, opinions are divided on the project: some see it as an economic perspective for the region, others as a sell-out of their own history. Over the next few days, Gudrun does everything she can to preserve the building as a community and meeting center. At the same time, Lara sets out to find her father.
