Biography

Kathrin Krottenthaler was part of the regular team of director Christoph Schlingensief. Amongst others, she worked as director of photography and partly as an editor on his films "Attabambi Pornoland" (2004), "The African Twin Towers" (2005-2008), Odins Parsipark (Stiftung Schloss Neuhardenberg, 2005) and "Fremdverstümmelung" (Migros Museum Zurich, 2007). She was nominated twice for the National Prize for Female DoP's at the International Women's Film Festival in Dortmund/Cologne: For Helene Hegemann's short film "Torpedo" (2008) and for Carolina Hellsgård's short film "Hjältar" (SE 2012). Krottenthaler's further works as a DoP and editor include Frieder Schlaich's documentary short film "Three Stones for Jean Genet" (2014) and the feature films "Wanja" (2015) and "Orientierungslosigkeit ist kein Verbrechen" (2014-2016).

In addition to her work for cinema productions, Krottenthaler is working as a live camera operator and video artist for theater productions. At the Volksbühne Berlin, the Cologne Opera and the Neumarkt Theater Zürich she worked with directors such as Frank Castorf, Sybille Berg and René Pollesch. In addition, Krottenthaler worked on a series of music videos, for bands like Die Goldenen Zitronen and Coco Krebitz. She was also part of the camera crew on Fatih Akins concert film "MTV unplugged - Westernhagen" (2016), recorded at the Volksbühne Berlin.

As a director, Kathrin Krottenthaler realized (together with Frieder Schlaich) the documentary feature film "Chance 2000 - Farewell to Germany" (2017), about the artistic political project "Chance 2000", initiated by Christoph Schlingensief in 1998.
