Summary

Spring Symphony

This filmic biography was shot with the support of DEFA on authentic locations in Leipzig and Dresden and deals with the love story of Clara Wieck and Robert Schumann, and the story of Clara′s father, Friedrich Wieck, who fiercely tried to end their relationship. Friedrich Wieck is an instrument dealer, piano teacher, and music educator, his daughter Clara a highly gifted prodigy on the piano. One of Wieck′s students is the young pianist and composer Robert Schumann who wants to become a piano virtuoso but has to focus on composition as his hand is already growing weak. When Schumann falls in love with Clara, and both of them want to marry, they have to appeal for her father′s admission in court. One year after the wedding Schumann composes his "Spring Symphony" for Clara.
