Etwas ganz Besonderes

Deutschland 2024-2026 Spielfilm

Summary

Home Stories

Lea is auditioning for a TV talent show. The producer asks her: “Who are you and what defines you?”. Lea has no answer. And thus begins a search for her identity. Meanwhile in her hometown, the museum is being lavishly renovated with EU money but her family’s B&B is struggling to stay afloat.

Lea’s parents Matze and Rieke are freshly separated because Rieke is expecting another man’s child and they are still struggling to get used to the new family set up. Her grandparents are also beset by problems, both with each other and with their forest hotel which, in this region badly lacking in tourists, is eating up more money than it makes. Her aunt Kati is a role model of independence for Lea, but, as head of the museum, she is making few friends in this small provincial town. Lea’s best friend Bonny is on a different planet since she fell in love with Lea’s cousin, the activist Edgar. And therein lies the complexity of the question: Who is Lea and who does she want to be? What home story can be spun from her family’s history?
