Biography

Mehdi Meskar was born on 22 March 1995 in Calabria, Italy, to Moroccan immigrants. From 2005 on he sarted acting on stage and from 2011 on also started appearing in short films. He made his feature film debut with a short appearance as a student in François Ozon's "Dans la maison" ("In the House", FR 2012). He went on to play the lead role of a young Afghan in Venice in the Italian comedy "Pitza e datteri" (2015) and the title role of the award-winning Dutch drama "Rafaël" (2018), about the fate of a Tunisian woman during the Arab Spring. Meskar has also appeared in several French television series, among others.

In Germany, Zoltan Spirandelli cast him in the "Tatort" episode "Der Pakt" (2018), in a leading role as a refugee who is suspected of murder. In Dror Zahavi's "CRESCENDO #makemusicnotwar" (DE/IT/AT 2019) he was a member of an Israeli-Palestinian youth orchestra. The German-British drama "Nur ein Augenblick" ("The Accidental Rebel", 2019, directed by Randa Chahoud) showed Meskar as a Syrian living in Germany, who sets out in search of his brother who was abducted in Syria. Following this, Mehdi Meskar was part of the ensemble of Roland Suso Richter's TV thriller "Spurlos in Marseille" (2019).
