Homo Faber

Volker Schlöndorff's film adaptation of Max Frisch's novel of the same name: Walter Faber travels the world as an engineer, using technology to control nature. On a flight to Caracas, his propeller plane has to make an emergency landing – and Faber encounters Herbert Hencke, a fellow passenger who is the brother of his former friend Joachim, who married Faber's great teenage love Hanna. Before Faber can meet him again, Joachim commits suicide. Unsettled and strangely repelled by his former lover Ivy, Faber boards a ship to Paris. On board, he meets the young Sabeth, falls in love with her, and travels with her to Athens, where Sabeth wants to visit her mother. Too late, Faber recognizes this mother as his childhood sweetheart Hanna and discovers that Sabeth is his own daughter.
