Tartüff

Deutschland 1925 Spielfilm

Tartuffe

An old man is nursed by his house-keeper out of sheer charity. At least that his what he thinks. Actually, the greedy woman is straight after the ill man′s fortune. In addition, she is not willing to share the money with anyone. Thus, she successfully defames the old man′s nephew who as a result gets disinherited. But the nephew does not give up so easily. Instead, he uses his acting talent to bring out the true face of his uncle′s house-keeper. Disguised beyond recognition, he shows a movie in his travelling cinema that is a simile to the greedy house-keeper′s scheme. The film tells the story of wily Tartüff who wants to fool a friend out of his money but who is exposed by a trick of his victim′s wife. When the nephew takes of his mask after the film′s screening, the house-keeper gives herself away. Now even the old uncle realises that she was only interested in his fortune and chases the sneaky woman out.
