Biography

Bastian Günther was born in Hachenburg, Westerwald on September 3 1974. He studied teaching at Cologne University and then joined broadcaster WDR as a freelancer. As assistant director he worked with Martin Martschewski and Christian Petzold. His dffb graduation film "Ende einer Strecke" received the First Steps Award in 2006.

His feature film debut "Autopiloten", which interweaved the life paths of four utterly different people, premiered at the 2007 Berlin IFF and later was awarded a prize at the Television Festival in Baden-Baden. In 2013, Günther's second full-length feature premiered at Sundance: "Houston" depicts the descent of a an alcoholic job headhunter (Ulrich Tukur), who vainly tries to get his life back on track. The film was released in Germany in December 2013.
