Martin Busker was born in 1980 in Emden in East Frisia. After graduating from high school in 1999, he completed a three-year vocational training course as a media designer for image and sound in Cologne. In 2003, he received a scholarship from the IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce) to train as an assistant director and worked for various film productions in Cologne and Berlin, among others for director Rosa von Praunheim. In October 2004 Busker began to study directing at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg. His short film "Höllenritt" ("Roller Coaster"), which he made there, celebrated its festival premiere at the Berlinale 2009.
For his diploma film "Halbe Portionen" ("Two and a Half Heroes") Martin Busker won the Max Ophüls Prize for medium-length films in 2011, as well as the "Goldener Spatz and the Prix Jeunesse in two categories each. His first work after film school was "Grimmsberg", the first stereo 3D production for the TV broadcaster ProSieben. After that he directed several TV series for the family entertainment sector for several years, the last one in 2015 was the comedy series "Die Mockridges - Eine Knallerfamilie" on WDR.
His feature film debut "Zoros Solo" was created for the big screen as a co-production between regional broadcaster SWR and the Munich-based production company H&V Entertainment. The tragic comedy starring Andrea Sawatzki and Mert Dincer was released in German cinemas on October 17, 2019 and re-released in June 2020 after coronavirus-related restrictions were lifted.
