Biography

Kai Ivo Baulitz was born in Düsseldorf on August 18 1971. After studying acting at the Westfälische Schauspielschule in Bochum, he joined the ensemble of the Deusche Theater in Göttingen (1998-2000). He went on to perform at the Schauspielhaus Bochum and the Schauspiel Wuppertal.

Following minor roles in TV series like "SK Babies" (1998) and "Alarm für Cobra 11" (1999), Baulitz was discovered by director Margarethe von Trotta, who cast him in her miniseries "Jahrestage" (1999). Baulitz next played a football enthusiast in Sönke Wortmann's TV series "Freunde für immer - Das Leben ist rund" (2006) and a murder suspect in Markus Imboden's "Mörderische Erpressung" (2006, TV). Following a supporting role in the box office success "Das Leben der Anderen" ("The Lives of Others", 2006), he played the male lead in the TV comedy "Noch ein Wort und ich heirate dich!" (2007), and had a recurring role in the TV series "Plötzlich Papa - Einspruch abgelehnt!" (2008).

Being in high demand as a TV actor, Kai Ivo Baulitz also had supporting roles in the theatrical releases "Die Räuberin" ("Rough", 2011), "Hai-Alarm am Müggelsee" ("Shark Alarm at Müggel Lake", 2013) and in "Lauf Junge Lauf" ("Run Boy Run", 2013). Alongside Benno Fürmann, he starred in the drama "Nachthelle" ("Bright Night"), which premiered at the 2014 Munich Film Festival, and was released in May 2015.

In addition to his acting career, Baulitz is a prolific and award-winning playwright, whose works have been staged in Frankfurt, Dresden, Hamburg and Weimar.
