Summary
Based on the operetta of the same name by Carl Millöcker. In the fantasy state of Olivia, the robber baron Gasparone is up to all kinds of mischief. But he is not the only one Governor Nasoni has to worry about; his son Sindulfo is also causing him headaches. He is supposed to marry the Countess Ambrat, but he loves Ita, the niece of Massaccio, a somewhat obscure person. Then the elegant Erminio arrives, and the Countess makes eyes at him. There is confusion after confusion, until Massaccio is revealed to be Gasparone. Erminio turns out to be a state official who was after Gasparone and now gets to be with his beautiful Countess. Finally, Sindulfo can take Ita in his arms.
