Summary
The science-fiction film, based on the novel by Nils Westerboer, is set in the year 2643 on the remote Neptunian moon Athos. When a monk dies under mysterious circumstances, the monastery's life-sustaining AI falls under suspicion of murder. The investigation is taken over by Rüd Kartheiser, an inquisitor and specialist in artificial intelligence. He is assisted by Zack, a holographic aide programmed for absolute obedience. To Rüd, Zack represents efficiency and control; to the monks, however, her presence is deeply unsettling and met with open hostility. As the inquiry progresses, the monastery's AI reveals itself to be manipulative and cunning - and another murder occurs. Rüd realizes that uncovering the truth will only be possible with Zack's full support. Faced with no other option, he makes a dangerous choice and lifts her security restrictions.
