Adieu Mascotte

A lavish party is being held at an art academy - the walls are lined with paintings for sale. Then one of the artist's models collapses in a faint!

Mascotte, the most popular and sought-after of the models, immediately rushes to her friend's side. She knows that her best friend is seriously ill and that only an expensive cure can help her. 6,000 francs, but where would Mascotte get so much money? Crazed, she begins auctioning off the exhibited paintings, with some success, but not enough to go around. When Mascotte holds up a nude painting of herself, someone in the crowd shouts, "10,000 for the original!" Mascotte wrestles with her conscience and, with a heavy heart, begins to auction herself off. Among those present is the young writer Jean Dardier. Trying to forget the pain of his wife's infidelity, he "buys" Mascotte for a period of 14 days. As Mascotte begins her "service" to Dardier, she learns of his unhappy marriage and hatches a plan to reconcile Dardier with his wife. But then feelings start developing between Mascotte and Dardier.
