Die Verrohung des Franz Blum

BR Deutschland 1973/1974 Spielfilm

The Brutalisation of Franz Blum

Actually, insurance clerk Franz Blum is living an outright honest, middle-class life. But one day, he suddenly participates in a bank robbery. He gets arrested and is sentenced to five years in prison. At first, sensitive Blum has a hard time to find his way in the brutal world of the prison. But in the course of time, he learns to battle his way through. With scheming, snitching and brute force, he rises in the prison’s pecking order to the rank of a leader – valued by the prison administration for his "regulatory measures" and feared by his fellow inmates. Eventually, Blum is released ahead of schedule as a supposedly rehabilitated, exemplary former convict.
