Tim Dünschede, born in 1984, initially studied visual communication with a focus on film and television at the Kunsthochschule Kassel. There, he also worked on several short films and directed his own first short film, "Haltlos" (2012), which was named Short Film of the Month by the Wiesbaden Film Rating Board. Eventually, Dünschede moved to Munich's Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film (HFF) to study directing. There he made several short and medium-length films, some of which screened at festivals. He also directed several music videos for the German pop rock/punk band "Killerpilze".
His 30-minute doomsday drama "Fremde" ("Them", 2017) with Emma Bading won Best Film, Best Director and Best Cinematography, among others, at the European Cinematography Awards. Dünschede's single-shot, feature-length HFF graduation film "Limbo" (2019), about a compliance manager who tracks down money launderers at her company, premiered at the Munich Film Festival; it won Best Film, Best Cinematography, and Best Lighting at the 2020 New York Cinematography Awards.
In July 2021, Tim Dünschede began shooting the feature film "Die Drei ??? - Erbe des Drachen," based on the juvenile book series "The Three Investigators". The movie was released theatrically in January 2023.
