Born in Athens on 17.4.1935, he studied film at the IDHEC in Paris and was a film critic in Athens from 1964-67. Since the beginning of the 1970s he is regarded as one of Europe"s major auteurs. His films are always explorations of historical and existential subjects and he displays a masterly ability to interweave different periods in time. He was the winner of the Golden Palm in Cannes in 1998. After his "Trilogy of Borders" and "Trilogy of Silence", "The Dust of Time" marks the second part of his latest celluloid triptych.
