Alexandra Helmig, born in Düsseldorf in 1975, studied French at the Sorbonne in Paris before beginning her acting training at the Hamburg Schauspielstudio Frese in 1996. During this time she made her stage debut at the Hamburg Kammerspiele in Sam Shepard's "Wilde Liebe" (1998), in which she starred alongside Mehmet Kurtulus. After graduating in 1999, she appeared in several productions at the Bad Gandersheimer Festspiele (2000 and 2002) and appeared in guest roles in several TV productions, such as the series "Die Wache" (2000/2001), "Der Doc - Schönheit ist machbar" (2001) and "Wilder Kaiser" (2002).
In 2002 Helmig began working as an author, with a focus on children's books and theatre. In the same year, she began studying Creative Writing at the University of Munich, graduating in 2008. In 2008, her play "Oder Argentinien" was awarded the Landesbühnen Prize, in 2014 her play "Leila Surana" took third place at the Coburg Forum for Young Authors; in the same year, she won the Children's Media Prize "The White Elephant" for the app "Die große Wörterfabrik" ("The Great Word Factory").
In addition to her work as an author, Alexandra Helmig also pursued her acting career. For her performance in the short film "Der Unbekannte" she received the Bronze Award at the Rostock Film Festival 2007. On television she was part of the large ensemble of Rolf Silber's comedy "Ein Teufel für Familie Engel" (2007) and Peter Gersina's crime comedy "Die Schnüfflerin - Peggy kann's nicht lassen" (2008). She guest starred in various series and over the years, e.g. in "SOKO München". She played TV leading roles in "Rosamunde Pilcher - Liebe am Horizont" (2009) and in the mockumentary "Twinfruit - Die Dose muss menschlich werden" (2014).
On the big screen Helmig was seen in smaller roles as the wife of a schools inspector in "Hilfe, ich hab meine Lehrerin geschrumpft" (2015) and as an estate agent in "Lux: Krieger des Lichts" (2018). She played her first leading role as a helicopter mother in the comedy "Frau Mutter Tier" ("Mother Bee", 2018), for which she also wrote the script based on her stage play from 2011 together with Rudi Gaul.
Helmig also works as a narrator for audio books and apps. As a singer she has appeared since 2013 under the stage name Ada Morghe together with jazz guitarist Uli Graner and band. She is also active in the field of youth culture: in 2011 she founded the non-profit Kinderkunsthaus München, and is also a member of the board of trustees of Lesefüchse e.V. München.
