Summary
Agnes & Amir
Her doctor has decided that Agnes can no longer live alone. Even so, she flatly refuses to move into a retirement home. At 101, the Berliner doesn't see herself there for a long time yet. The solution turns out to be Amir, a young Iranian who fled his home country, where gay men face persecution, and who can no longer stand life in his refugee shelter. Agnes offers him a room in her spacious apartment in an old prewar building, without asking for anything in return. What begins as an arrangement of convenience soon develops a life of its own. The two share a dry sense of humor and bicker over how much water goes into a shower and over Persian food. After years of living in seclusion, Agnes visibly blossoms. She tries to set her roommate up with the trainer from the gym. She also revives a plan from her youth: she wants to enter a dance competition, this time with Amir as her partner, and set an age record in the process. Through all of this, one question remains open: whether Amir will be allowed to stay in Germany.
