Summary
After surviving a plane crash in the Amazon, young Rebecca is miraculously rescued—an Indigenous man carries her for days through the jungle to a logging site, where she is discovered and given medical care. She grows up in the rainforest with her father, a Christian missionary, who later presents her as a teenage miracle healer within his evangelical community. However, the seemingly peaceful life she knows begins to unravel when the local Iruaté people protest against the illegal deforestation by European settlers, blocking access to a bridge. At the same time, Rebecca is asked to heal the sick wife of the sawmill owner, who promises to withdraw from the area in return. As Rebecca becomes increasingly drawn to the Indigenous youth, she eventually chooses to side with them, finding herself caught in the middle of a growing conflict. Her world is further shaken when a nurse who knew Rebecca’s mother reveals truths that challenge everything she believed.
The story is inspired by the real-life experience of German-Peruvian biologist Juliane Koepcke, who was the sole survivor of a plane crash in the Peruvian rainforest in 1971.
