Flügel und Fesseln

BR Deutschland Frankreich 1984 Spielfilm

Summary

French actress Isabelle Khan is very successful and rarely at home. That’s why she has to leave her daughter Emelie in the care of her German mother, Paula. There has been tension between Isabelle and Paula ever since Isabelle was born: Paula, who once also had hopes of a career in acting, was unable to realize her dream because of World War II and Isabelle’s birth. She blames Isabelle for this and makes no secret of it, letting her know at every opportunity. As a German woman in France—where she had moved with Isabelle’s father, a French occupation officer—she was also never able to truly settle in. When Isabelle returns from a film shoot with a lover, the mother-daughter conflict erupts openly.
