Now at the movies: The Good Sister

Sarah Miro Fischer's feature film debut "The Good Sister" explores a deep conflict between moral standards and loyalty to a loved one. The film centres on Rose (Marie Bloching), a young woman who has just broken up with her girlfriend and is now temporarily moving in with her brother Sam (Anton Weil). The siblings have always had a very close relationship, understanding each other blindly and trusting each other completely. So they go about their daily lives together for a while – but their intimacy collapses when one day a woman accuses Sam of raping her. As part of the investigation, Rose is also asked to testify against him, which throws her completely off track. Could there be any truth to this outrageous suspicion? Could it be that she doesn't know Sam as well as she always thought? With almost hypnotic concentration and without easy answers, the film captures Rose's shock – played magnificently by Marie Bloching – and asks the uncomfortable question of how much our feelings can distort our view of reality. Last year, "The Good Sister" was deservedly awarded the First Steps Award.
