Biography

Benjamin Kramme was born on February 7, 1982, in Weimar (then GDR). He made his stage debut in 2002 with his high school theater group in Frank Wedekind's "Spring Awakening," which was performed at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar. From 2004 to 2008, he studied acting at the University of Film and Television "Konrad Wolf" in Potsdam-Babelsberg (now Filmuniversität Babelsberg). His feature film debut came in 2007 with a major role in Julia von Heinz's award-winning coming-of-age drama "Was am Ende zählt" ("Nothing Else Matters"), alongside Paula Kalenberg.

After graduating, he worked as a freelance actor and radio drama performer. In 2009, he played the lead role of a radicalized student in the mid-length drama "Die Unbedingten" and appeared in the ensemble of the comedy "13 Semester" ("13 Semesters").

In the following years, Kramme was primarily seen in a wide range of television productions. He had guest roles in series such as "SOKO Leipzig," "Danni Lowinski," and "Notruf Hafenkante," and appeared in TV films including "Der Gewaltfrieden" (2010) and "Blindgänger" (2015).

In November 2013, he joined Friedrich Mücke and Alina Levshin to form the Erfurt-based investigative team for "Tatort," Germany's long-running and culturally iconic crime series. The team's second case aired in December 2014. Following poor reviews, Mücke and Levshin left the production, which led to the cancellation of the Erfurt "Tatort" episodes, while the rest of the series continued.

In the subsequent years, Kramme continued to appear in various TV productions. On the big screen, he had a lead role in the multi-award-winning biopic "Gundermann," playing the ex-husband of Gerhard Gundermann's wife, Conny.

On stage, he performed at the Kleistforum Frankfurt/Oder (2015), the Bad Hersfelder Festspiele (2018), the Volkstheater Rostock (2018), and the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin (2021).

In 2018, together with Jennifer Sabel, Kramme founded the production company Wunschkindfilm, through which they produced the short film "Alternativen" ("Once in Purple Dungarees," 2019) among others, which won awards at the Biberacher Film Festival, Kinofest Lünen, and Bamberger Kurzfilmtage.

In the following years, the duo—who are also partners in life—continued to write and produce short films together, with Kramme directing and Sabel in the leading role. Their 16-minute "Den Rest mach ich morgen" ("What Will You Remember in Fifty Thousand Years?," 2021) premiered at the Toronto Alternative Film Festival and won the Youth Jury Prize at the Bamberger Kurzfilmtage in 2022.

With the drama "Ich sterbe, kommst du?" ("Clouds Are Made of Rain"), Kramme made his feature film debut – a moving story about a terminally ill woman and mother (Jennifer Sabel) who finds an unexpected friendship during her time in hospice. As with their earlier shorts, the screenplay was a joint effort between Kramme and Sabel. At the 2025 Max Ophüls Film Festival, "Ich sterbe, kommst du?" won both the Prize for Socially Relevant Film and the Audience Award; it also received the DEFA Foundation’s Sponsorship Award and the Audience Award at the Filmkunstfest Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The film was released theatrically in November 2025.
