In this provincial farce, farm owner Adele Hecht quarrels with the retired privy councilor Warrenheim after Warrenheim′s servant Valentin has stolen and fried the rare egg of Adele′s Duck Monika. The argument also troubles the budding romance of Adele′s nephew Theo and Warrenheim′s daughter Hansi as well as the flirtation of maid Liesl and Valentin. An improvised arbitration is supposed to decide about the case but when the duck unexpectedly lays another egg, all conflicts soon blow over.
