Margot Trooger was born in Rositz (Thuringa) on June 2nd 1923. After graduating school and an apprenticeship, she worked as a secretary in Innsbruck. In 1945 she too private acting lessons in Munich, followed by her stage debut in Bamberg one year later. She performed in different theatres all over Germany, including stints in Bremen, Stuttgart, Hamburg and Berlin. Apart from her stage work, she was also hired for radio programmes and film dubbing thanks to her distinct voice, which would later become one of her trademarks.

Already in 1949, she gave her hardly noticed screen debut in a small part in "Ich mach" dich glücklich" starring Heinz Rühmann and it took until the 1960s before audiences really took notice of her. Success came with the TV-hit "Das Halstuch" – a crime serial that literally swept the streets of Germany empty during its airtime – and the immensely profitable Edgar-Wallace adaptations: In productions like "Der Hexer" (The Wizard) and "Das Verrätertor" (Traitor"s Gate), Trooger perfectly embodie the mysterious British Lady and soon became a staple of the hugely popular crime genre. But at times, the actress ventured beyond the mainstream and appeared in films like "Jet-Generation" by Eckhart Schmidt or Peter Zadek"s Agit-Prop-Masterpiece "Ich bin ein Elepfant, Madame" (I"m an Elephant, Madam). One of her unforgotten parts was the strict Miss Prüsselius in the "Pippi Langstrumpf" film series, in which the attractive actress proved her comic skills as a hysterical and extremely overdressed teacher.

Due to health problems, Margot Trooger – whose daughter Sabina Trooger (born in 1955) also became an actress – withdrew from the business in the 1970s. On April 24th 1994, Margot Trooger passed away in Mörlenbach.
