Daniel Lommatzsch was born in Hamburg in 1977. From 1998 until 2002, he studied acting at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst 'Ernst Busch' in Berlin. He moved on to become a company player at the Schauspielhaus Zürich (2002–2005), the Staatstheater Hannover (2005–2008) and the Maxim-Gorki-Theater Berlin (2008), where he performed in a wide variety of productions, including "Richard III." (2002), "Emilia Galotti" (2007), "Bekenntnisse des Hochstaplers Felix Krull" (2006) and a stage adaptation of "M – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder" (2008).

In 2009, Lommatzsch joined the ensemble of the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, where he starred in productions of Bunbury" (2009) and "Dantons Tod" (2011/12). In 2014, he was awarded the Rolf-Mares-Preis as part of the cast of the stage production of "Moby Dick". He also guest-starred in productions at the Kammerspiele in Munich (2015/16) and at the Schauspielhaus Zurich (2016/17).

In addition to his extensive stage career, Daniel Lommatzsch occasionally acts for film and television. After roles in "Identy Kills" (2003) and "Vier Könige, drei Regeln" (2003), he played terrorist Christian Klar in "Der Baader Meinhof Komplex" (2008). Moreover, he guest-starred in TV shows like "Tatort", "Großstadtrevier" and "SOKO Leipzig" (2018).

Daniel Lommatzsch made his debut as director with the feature film "Am Ende ist man tot", which was made by actors and staff of the Thalia Theater during their spare time and financed through a crowdfunding campaign. Shooting began in 2012, and the finished film premiered at the Thalia Theater in May 2016. "Am Ende ist man tot" was eventually released theatrically in 2018.
