Cinema Jenin
After shooting his award-winning documentary "Das Herz von Jenin" in Israel and the Palestinian territories , director Marcus Vetter started an ambitious cultural project. Alongside Ismail Khatib, the father who was featured in "Das Herz von Jenin", and translator Fakhri Hamad he dedicated himself to the idea of "Cinema Jenin": The men want to turn a run-down movie theatre into a cultural centre. Structured like a diary, the film recounts the exhausting but eventually successful struggle to fulfil their vision. Along with financial problems, distrusting officials from the local government give the men a hard time. After overcoming a multitude of – often absurd –obstacles, the new Cinema Jenin was opened to the public in August 2010.
