Oliver Schwehm was born in Alzey in 1975. He first studied Romance and German philology, then took a degree course in documentary film at the University of Strasbourg (France). As an editor with the German-French cultural TV channel ARTE, he oversaw numerous reportages and documentaries, among them "Denn sie kennen kein Erbarmen - Der Italowestern" (2006), "Mutter Teresa - Heilige der Dunkelheit" (2010), "Jean-Louis Trintignant - Warum ich lebe" (2012), "Louis de Funès - Alles tanzt nach seiner Pfeife" (2013), "Autor Solaris" (2016), "Revolution of Sound. Tangerine Dream" (2017) and "Tokio Hotel - Hinter die Welt" ("Tokio Hotel - Behind the World", 2017).

Additionally, Schwehm also directed a series of TV documentaries, mostly about well-known artists and topics surrounding the world of film and music. "Winnetou darf nicht sterben" (2007, about the actor Pierre Brice), "Christopher Lee - Gentleman des Grauens" (2010), "Monty Python - Fast die ganze Wahrheit!" (2011), "German Grusel - Die Edgar Wallace-Serie" (2011), "Cinema Perverso - Die wunderbare und kaputte Welt des Bahnhofskinos" (2015) and "Milli Vanilli: From Fame to Shame" (2016) count among his most important productions.

In 2018, Schwehm, together with Kathrin Anderson, realised the documentary "Der Unerschrockene: Der Berliner Filmproduzent Artur Brauner" on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of producer Artur Brauner. In the same year, Schwehm's documentary feature "Fly, Rocket, Fly! - Mit Macheten zu den Sternen" ("Fly Rockt Fly") premiered at the International Film Festival Munich. The film about the legendary first private space launch company OTRAG, was released in German cinemas in September 2018.
