Überleben in Neukölln
Documentary about several artists with different sexual preferences and lifestyles living in Berlin's Neukölln district. Director Rosa von Praunheim portrays, among others, the everyday life of the 89-year-old Mrs. Richter, who moved to Berlin to live her homosexuality unmolested, and the Cuban Joaquin la Habana, who cohabits in Neukölln with a man. The audience gets to know the Syrian lesbian singer Enana, the self-proclaimed "Polittunte" Patsy l'Amour la Lov and the Russian performance artist Mischa Badasyan. The central character of the film, however, is the artist Juwelia, whose real name is Stefan Stricker and who has been running a gallery in Neukölln for years. Rosa von Praunheim shows the celebrations taking place in the gallery every week and accompanies Juwelia to her first exhibition in New York City as well as on a visit to her mother's grave.
