Memory Hotel
In May 1945, five-year-old Sophie flees with her parents from the advancing Red Army, bound for America. On their way, they take refuge in a hotel, where they encounter Nazi officer Scharf and Hitler Youth member Beckmann. During a violent clash, Sophie's parents are killed, and the girl loses her memory. Soon after, Soviet soldiers occupy the hotel and take Sophie in, assigning her to work as a cook for the garrison. Decades pass as Sophie remains trapped in the building, which mysteriously holds its inhabitants. Beckmann hides in the air-raid shelter, while Scharf and the Soviet soldiers also remain part of this strange microcosm. Eventually, Sophie's memories return. With Beckmann's help, she manages to leave the hotel. In her suitcase, she still carries the ship ticket to America — the original destination of her family's ill-fated escape.
