Biography

Verena Fels was born on 15 June 1980 in Biberach an der Riss. Until 2004 she studied media technology at the Hochschule der Medien in Stuttgart, followed by film and animation studies at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg. During her studies she shot "Der Moment" (2008, together Csaba Letay), a trailer for the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film, in which a brightly coloured horse appeared that has since been the festival's mascot 'Trixi'. Fels' graduation film, the seven-minute animated film "Mobile" (2010) about an idiosyncratic cow, won the Children's Jury Prize at the Oberhausen Short Film Festival and the main animation prize at the Children's Media Festival Goldener Spatz. In 2011, Fels developed a children's book from the film.

She wrote and directed the short animation film series "Kuschelbande" (2012-2013), in which she dealt with topics such as tolerance and friendship in a child-friendly way. Over the next few years, Fels made further short animated films and taught at her alma mater, the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.

In 2018, Fels, together with Sandor Jesse, began working on her first feature-length animated film "Der kleine Rabe Socke - Suche nach dem verlorenen Schatz" ("Raven the Little Rascal - Hunt for the Lost Treasure"), the third feature film based on the "Rabe Socke" children's books. The film was theatrically released in December 2019.
