Summary

The Good Earth

Based on Pearl S. Buck’s best-selling novel by the same name that won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize, "The Good Earth" tells the story of a Chinese farmer who despite a life full of privation never loses his dignity – and finally finds his luck because of a woman: For many years now, Wang Lung is living from hand to mouth. Until the beautiful O-Lang, a freed slave, enters his life. The marriage with O-Lang seems to finally give Wang’s life a positive turn in all respects. She gives birth to their son, is on his side in difficult times, and helps him to become wealthy by means of her savvy and her hard work. But then, Wang seems to put his luck at stake by looking for a younger, more beautiful wife. However, his search also seems to put an abrupt end to his lucky streak.
