Summary

Mother Krause Goes to Heaven
The widow Krause lives in a dark street in Berlin with her son and daughter. The three adults share the small kitchen of the apartment, the only other room is rented out to a dubious young man and his girlfriend, a prostitute.

Ms. Krause′s daughter meets a young man and falls in love with him. While she is out with her new boyfriend one day, her brother steals the money mother Krause has collected from selling newspapers - money that she has to hand over the next day.
Ms. Krause does everything she can to try to pull together the money, but to no avail. Even her pleas for an extension remain unfulfilled. The newspaper delivery company charges her with theft. Mother Krause feels trapped and, when her son is arrested for attempted robbery, she commits suicide. And she takes the prostitute′s child with her.
