Feuer unter Deck

DDR 1976/1979 Spielfilm

Summary

Otto Scheidel had been the captain of the"Jenissei", the last paddle steamer on the Elbe river, for 22 years. He has even left his girlfriend Carola, called Caramba, to be able to stay on the ship. Now, the "Jenissei" is anchoring for the last time and being rebuilt into a restaurant, and Otto starts to work for a railway construction brigade. But when several ships get stuck on the Elbe during low tide, Otto takes the initiative and abducts the rebuild old steamer – that in the meantime has been taken over by Caramba – to drag free the stuck vessels. He cries out "Fire under deck" to chase the restaurant guests from the ship. During the following turbulent actions the "Jenissei" breaks apart and Caramba and Otto start a bitter and rough fight. But finally Caramba realizes what his work and the ships meant to Otto – and they both get a second chance for a happy life together.
