Summary

During his stay in Terbrügg, a small village in Flanders, the wealthy merchant Fernando Sartorius gives the mayor’s wife, Antje, a bathtub with the intention of seducing her the next time he returns to the village. Antje is delighted with the bathtub, but her husband Hendrik banishes it from their home. When Antje takes a bath outside instead, the lecherous men in the village watch her. Through a ruse, Antje and her maids manage to expose the peeping Toms, and the villagers ultimately decide that the bathtub only causes trouble. They throw it into the nearby quarry. Antje demands a new tub, but wheels are secretly attached to it. During her first bath, she starts rolling and comes to a stop in the village square. These events bring Hendrik and Antje back together, so that Satorius, who returns shortly thereafter, is unable to achieve his goal of seducing Antje.
