Women Without Men

Deutschland Österreich Frankreich 2009 Spielfilm

Summary

Iran in the summer of 1953: The country is experiencing one of the most devastating moments in its history as the government of Mohammed Mossadegh, the first democratically elected prime minister, is overthrown by forces backed by the US and Great Britain, thus putting the Shah back into office. At the same time, four women from very different walks of life experience a short period of previously unknown freedom: In an enchanted garden outside of Teheran, the free-spirited art connaisseur Fakhri, young prostitute Zarin, political activist Munis and her friend Faezeh congregate. While the hope for a just society is fading in the violent chaos on the streets of Teheran, their shared attempt to escape fate and to search for a future have brought them together by chance.
