Biography

Regina Bayer was born June 13, 1947, in Berlin, as the daughter of an engineer. After finishing school, she at first started an apprenticeship as a film technician and already worked as a photo model before she played her first movie part in Rolf Losansky's short satire "Motorradhelden" (1964). From 1965 to 1969, she attended actor's training at Deutsche Hochschule für Filmkunst in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Already during her stay at drama school, Beyer made convincing appearances in Kurt Maetzig's film "Das Mädchen auf dem Brett" (1967) and in Werner W. Wallroth's movie "Hauptmann Florian von der Mühle" (1968) alongside Manfred Krug. From 1969 until it was closed down in 1990, Beyer was a cast member of DEFA.

Beyer played young and impulsive women in several contemporary comedies, for instance in the love story "Im Himmel ist doch Jahrmarkt" (1969), directed by Rolf Losansky, where Beyer played the part of parachutist Gritta. In Janos Veiczi's film "Anflug Alpha 1" (1971), Beyer starred as Anka who has to stand by her boyfriend, an air force lieutenant, after a crash.

From the 1970s on, Regina Beyer was also regularly seen on stage and studied theatre studies at Theaterhochschule "Hans Otto" in Leipzig from 1975 to 1979. But she became most popular with her TV appearances. Beyer starred in numerous roles in popular TV series such as "Polizeiruf 110" or "Der Staatsanwalt hat das Wort". The end of the GDR did not affect Beyer's career as she was still regularly offered parts in film and TV productions. Her last feature film has been "Cosimas Lexikon" ("Cosima's Lexicon", 1992), directed by Peter Kahane.

Regina Beyer is living in Berlin.
