Jiang Yiyan was born in Shaoxing, China, on September 11, 1982. From 2008 on, she appeared in supporting roles in Chinese film productions, including the acclaimed war drama "Nanjing! Nanjing!" (2009). In 2010, Chinese-born director Dan Tang – who works in Germany – cast her as the female lead opposite Florian Lukas in the romantic tragicomedy "I Phone You", which opened in German Cinemas in May 2011.
